Biopower refers to a variety of concepts, including the general use of biologically derived materials for the production of energy.

More specifically, biopower refers to electricity generated from the direct firing of biomass, which is also known as biomass power or bioelectricity generation.

According to the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), "Biopower system technologies include direct-firing, cofiring, gasification, pyrolysis, and anaerobic digestion."[1]
